Call for submission International New Writings Award

Short multimedia pieces, sound slideshows, video works.

In partnership with the French association Freelens, the New Writings Award calls for short multimedia pieces, sound slideshows, video works, or photographic short films.

The call is open to all journalists, photojournalists, photography and journalism students, and dedicated amateurs. They are invited to submit a short and creative multimedia piece composed of stills, videos, texts and audio with a duration of under 4 minutes (recommended). The theme is open but the work has to be of a documentary or journalistic nature.

One project will be awarded with a 1000 Euro prize and will be presented during the Saguenay ZOOM Photo Festival, along with 10 other selected projects. Travel to Saguenay, Quebec (Canada) and accommodation will be provided by the festival. The awarded piece will also be streamed on the web.

Submission period : August 17 to September 30, 2015

A short written description of the multimedia piece must be submitted along with the application.

The awarded project and 10 selected projects must be sent in high definition (preferably .mov by wetransfer) to associationfreelens@gmail.com

The winning project will be awarded with
– A 1000 Euros grant
– A maximum of 1100 Euros will be spend by the festival to pay for travel and accommodation of the winner to Saguenay, Canada.
– A projection of the project on Friday, November the 6th in Saguenay, Quebec, Canada, during the Zoom Photo Festival.
– Streaming of the project on a web platform.

The jury will also select 10 exceptional submissions, which will be projected during the ZOOM Photo Festival on November 6th 2015 in Saguenay, as well as on a web platform.

New Writings Award rules

Call for submissions to the International New Writings Award, a partnership between RUP FreeLens (France) and Zoom Photo Festival in Saguenay (Canada).

The New Writings Award calls for short multimedia pieces, sound slideshows, video works, or photographic short films.

Foreword :
FreeLens association, an officially recognized non profit organization according to the 1901 French law, c/Scam 5 rue Velasquez 75003 Paris, and Groupe Photo Media International c/o pulperie 300 rue Dubuc SAGUENAY, QC, G7J 4M1 Canada, invite you to take part in the Saguenay Zoom Photo Festival.
The call for submissions is for short multimedia pieces/sound slideshows/Photographic films in Saguenay, Canada, in November 2015 and in partnership with the organizers of the festival.

Article 1 : Conditions of participation
The call is open to every person or art collective. There is no age, nationality or residency restriction. There is no fee.

Article 2 : Submitting

The 11 selected projects will have to send one image of the project (1024 pixels on the longest side), as well as summary of the project and a high definition file of the movie (.mov preferably) to appelacandidatures@gmail.com, using wetransfer.

Article 3 : Application and streaming

The 11 selected projects will be streamed on the account of the New Writings Award on a web streaming platform.

Article 4 : Deadlines
The call for submission is opened from August 17th 2015 to September 30th 2015 midnight (Montreal time).
A pre-jury will select candidates between October 5th 2015 and October 11th 2015.
A professional jury will select the finalists between the 12th and 17th October 2015.
The winning project and the 10 selected projects will be projected on Friday November the 6th 2015 in Saguenay, Canada.

Article 5 : Selection
Pre-jury and jury will be composed of members of the Freelens board, members of the Zoom Photo Festival, partners of the festival and photography professionals.
The decisions of pre-jury and jury will be definitive. Jury will only select complete applications. The winning candidates including the 10 selected projects will be emailed before October 19th 2015.

Applications will be judged based on:
– Originality of the subject and process.
– Quality of the work and of the images (framing, point of view, coherence…).
– Quality of the sound and its coherence regarding the subject.
– Quality of the editing : rhythm, scenario, transitions, music and sounds, interviews, narration…

Article 6 : Award
The winning project will be awarded with:
– A 1000 Euros grant

Article 7 : Candidates
The application implies that the candidate fully accepts the rules and conditions of the award.
The winning candidate will have to be available for the projection and the award ceremony on Friday November the 6th in Saguenay, Quebec, Canada.
The candidates allow Freelens and Zoom Photo Festival to use and display parts of the submitted works for promotion and for no charge.
The candidates recognize that the submitted projects are original works and don’t constitute infringements or counterfeit of existing creative works.
The candidates recognize that subjects, people, or works of arts represented in their multimedia projects have given them releases or the rights to use their creations. They recognize that they have paid any taxes or fees necessary to the use of copyrighted works.
The jury may ask for the documents mentioned above.

Article 8 : FreeLens and Zoom Photo Festival engagement
FreeLens and Zoom Photo Festival will not use the images and sounds of the submitted projects for any other purpose that the one mentioned in Article 7.
If other projections may happen during other events, organizers of the award will ask for the candidates permission.
Members of the jury are not allowed to submit any project.
In case of emergency, the award could be canceled or reported, at any moment and with no prior warning. No reimbursement can be expected.
